Sports or Space 0

Cleveland Plus : Invite to Sports or Space from Joshua Gerken

To be honored by an Addy Award this week, I edited this video for Cleveland Plus which is a marketing alliance in northern Ohio. This teaser video was emailed before the actual invitations to an event which publicizes the area to businesses around the world. The theme was Sports or Space. Here’s the mailer:

Great Local Discussions 0

Two great local events happened this week. Along with some lovely designers from Studio Graphique, I volunteered to help Zero Landfill tear up a bunch of carpet sample books. The cardboard is recycled as are the carpet samples. They must be manually separated, and we were happy to help such a great local organization.

Also this week, Entrepreneurs for Sustainability (E4S) hosted an inspiring event about local food. There was a panel discussion where lots of great info was shared including the potential for NE Ohio to supply much of it’s own food demand. There is a social network at localfoodcleveland.org where these discussions can continue. It was held at at Trinity Cathedral, a 100 year old church on Euclid Avenue.

Pepsi Redesign Rationale 0

If you haven’t already, treat yourself to the pdf rationale of the new Pepsi identity. This AdAge article sums it up nicely. It’s probably a HUGE success, just because it’s making the news everywhere, breaking out of the marketing community and into the mainstream. Score for Peter Arnell (the egomaniac designer) and score for Pepsi. Any of the Pepsi’s wasted money and the designers wasted time has easily been made up with free media exposure within the last few days.

Hopefully this hasn’t created a new professional standard for logo design. The BS meter is off the charts. The comments on this Gawker post are hilarious.

Design Accord 0

Valerie Casey started the Design Accord which is an open resource for designers of all kinds to produce sustainable products and business practices. This is then translated to educating clients and developing their own business plans. Check out this interesting interview with Val about the inception. Here’s to good design!
